Why Standard Advice Often Falls Short
The conventional approach to type 2 diabetes focuses on managing blood sugar with medication while following a diet that may contain 45–60% carbohydrates. For many people, this means their blood sugar stays elevated, medications increase over time, and the underlying insulin resistance continues to worsen.
A growing body of research — including landmark studies by Virta Health, Dr David Unwin in the UK, and Professor Grant Schofield in New Zealand — demonstrates that reducing carbohydrate intake can address the root cause of type 2 diabetes: too much glucose entering the bloodstream from dietary carbohydrate.
Our team includes Dr Glen Davies, a GP and Fellow of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine who has helped patients reverse type 2 diabetes through dietary intervention, and Steven Hamley, a PhD researcher studying the pathophysiology of insulin resistance at Deakin University.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can type 2 diabetes actually be reversed?
Research shows that significant dietary changes — particularly reducing carbohydrate intake — can normalise blood sugar levels and reduce or eliminate the need for diabetes medication in many people. The Virta Health study demonstrated that 60% of participants reversed their type 2 diabetes after one year on a ketogenic diet.
Will I need to stop my diabetes medication?
Any medication changes must be made in consultation with your GP. Our role is to help you adopt a dietary approach that may reduce your need for medication over time. We work alongside your medical team, not in place of them.
How quickly will I see results?
Many clients see improved fasting blood glucose within the first 2–4 weeks. HbA1c changes typically become measurable after 3 months. Weight loss often begins in the first week as the body adjusts to burning fat for fuel.
Is a low carb diet safe for people with diabetes?
Low carbohydrate diets have been used safely in diabetes management for over a century. The American Diabetes Association now recognises low carb eating as a valid approach. Our coaches monitor your progress closely to ensure safety.
